(Disclaimer, our home computer will no longer allow me to upload photos so Chris was kind enough to take a DVD with the sessions photos on it and upload a smattering, I am missing some of my favs but what can you do, I am just grateful he was able to upload any!) I had so much fun shooting a surprise birthday present for T and O's Daddy! Their gorgeous mom brought me down to the beach in front of their home and right to the coolest prop ever... a bright blue boat!!!

She wanted lots of candids of the kids just playing-- the best and funnest kind to take of children, I think.
T had so much fun jumping around his boat. His mom and I really had to work to get his attention

With such a cool boat to play with and people fishing etc. it was "harder" (not really) to have T look at the camera. We learned not to say "where is Kelly"

Instead we would say "look at the light house!"

O is such a smiley guy when you catch his eye. Can you believe those adorable cheeks!

What it means to Post Process

One of my photography teachers stressed that fact that editing is going through the images you have taken and deciding which ones go straight to the trash and which ones you keep. Just like in editing live film. Once you have gone through and edited your images then you start "post production". This is when you make actual changes to the image, enhance color, remove color whatever you decide. I love this part. A lot of big time photographers will out process the initial part of this process (the color and white balance correcting etc.) The thought of having to do this makes me giddy because it means you are so busy with shoots that you just don't have time to do this, how cool would that be. Then when the images come back nice and clean they do artistic touches. This generally means photoshop actions and textures. Before I bought photoshop I always wondered how in the world photographers got certain looks to their pictures. Welp its totally from photoshop and the actions. I thought it might be interesting to show you (my none existent reader) what can happen to a photo. This is Sammy my oldest. I actually didn't take this photo it is from our family session but my friend who took it was kind enough to give me the RAW images to do with what I may. I chose this one though because I was playing around with it last night when I got the idea for this post. Plus I like funkier pictures which I know are an acquired taste.

On the right you have the original image as it looked after I sent it through Adobe bridge, lightening it up, adding a little saturation then opening it up in photoshop, running a clarity action and lightening up Sams face. I added saturation of color just to his tie and his jeans because I planned on desaturating the entire image eventually and didn't want those parts to totally disappear. I then ran a desaturating action, another clarity action (which I then erased everywhere but on Sam). I ended by adding a texture file, and reducing the opacity dramatically and erasing it completely on Sam's hands and face. So there you go. While I know the general audience would prefer the only slightly touched up version I think it is fun to get a little crazy every now and then and thats how you do it ;)

I had my first shoot in Dili the other day! Whoo hoo! It was for the sweetest baby girl who was born on Christmas Eve. What a lovely Christmas present. Her lovely mother works at the Embassy and was kind enough to hold out on baby announcements until I got here. Now we just have to order them, have them mailed to dili then mailed back out... so by the time she is one people will know she was born haaaa! Here is one of the announcements I made for her (the info is all made up for her safety).

Since I haven't received our shipment that has all of my photography stuff we just did this in my front room with blankets we had lying around! I am so glad it turned out well.

Shooting this adorable baby girl was so easy. The lighting was perfect and she LOVED the camera. She would just stare at it. There were lots of belly kisses to get some smiles out of her because she took her session pretty seriously :)

She had such great hair we had fun putting all sorts of accessories in it

Purple is defiantly her color, it looks amazing with her dark hair

Her mom looked AMAZING for just having a baby.

I love this little tiny smile. Its as if she was saying "I guess I'll give you something"

Pay Back Photographer Style

Sunday morning was awesome. It was my turn to repay Elizabeth for our fabulous family pictures. I had so much fun taking them! We were worried at first because it was raining pretty hard. Luckily I thought of a place by our house that has a cool bike/ running trail that goes through a tunnel I thought would make a urban chic background.
I know I am bias because I took them and Elizabeth is one of my closest friends, but HELLO how cute are they!

Elizabeth did such a good job of putting together such awesome outfits. She and Bandon looked like they should be in a clothing add:

Gwyneth was so adorable! I felt awful making her be out in the cold since she had been so sick earlier in the weekend... its all for the pictures though right?

Poor Atticus was so cold. Elizabeth was so prepared with hand warmers and everything, it was just so cold. What a trooper

Elizabeth and Brandon pretended to beat each other up to coax out these cute smiles, you gotta do what you gotta do!

I hope you like them as much as I do Elizabeth! What do you think same deal in two years?

This little fellow was an absolute dream to shoot! He was smiley and giggle the whole time. I have been doing so many under five month shoots that I forgot what a snap it is to get adorable pictures of seven month olds.

Anyway we would place him he was grinning away for his momma

who (like most moms) suffered from the occasional "attack of the face" (I LOVE when Abby does this to me... it makes me feel so loved).

It was great working with such a happy camper

I had to post process these SOOOO fast since in about an hour the movers come to take my computer away ahhhhhhhh! What will I do with out my MAC for four weeks! I'll tell you what, my pictures are not going to look like this:

LIttle Henry

This little guy was just five days old when I got to take some pictures of him. No matter how many newborn sessions I do I am always blown away at how tiny they are!

After his Mom got him to sleep he was good and zonked for the duration.

I almost felt bad finish and having to get him all dressed again :) Although everyone was pretty happy that we could turn the heat off haaa!

Birdie Girl

I had so much fun shooting this little doll. Her parents call her Birdie, how cute is that! I knew it was going to be a fabulous shoot the moment I walked into their home and wished I could call it my own! McCall was a dream to work with and had me laughing the whole time. Add in the fact that Birdie was a smiley happy girl and tah-dah dream shoot!

Birdies nursery was so serene I loved it! We had to get a shot with her cute mirror. Luckily she looked at me just when I took it!

Plus I kept telling them that good looking people make my job soooo easy!

I loved their wedding rings so I had to get one with Birdie sporting their bling.

Again I have been having the hardest time choosing my favorites between black and white and color. Well at least with my philosophy my clients don't have to choose and get all of them :)

The power of a red head

This little man was so adorable! He was very serious and very interested in everything around him. He had the cutest little dimple, couple that with his red hair and you get stinkin adorable! I had so much fun being crazy with his mom trying to get him to smile. If someone had video taped us it would have been pretty fun to watch!

I made that bow tie... I think I am going to make a bunch more now that I realize how easy it is!

Look at those blue eyes! I just love red hair with blue eyes. I totally thought with Chris's red beard and my Irish roots we would get a red head-- no such luck yet :)

I really love my job. I get paid to take pictures of adorable children and get to meet the most wonderful people in the process. This weekend I meet McKenzie and Ali. Oh my goodness were they ever adorable. I had so much fun with their mom and Grandma there to help. This shoot was complete with out fit change which I LOVE.
We got some great princess shots of them kissing a frog but this adorable candid came after, is McKenzie imparting some wisdom to her younger sister?

McKenzie was a dream to work with. She gave me serious, she gave me big huge goofy smile, she was wonderful

Ali did wonderfully once I figured out that she didn't want to just sit there and smile she wanted to WORK it! She wanted hip popped attitude shots (Plenty of those in the next post)

Big Man On Campus

Little Mr. Sam is sooooo adorable. When I walked in the door I knew his eyes would photograph out of sight. His cute Mom was so wonderful to work with. We took our time and worked around Mr. Sam and I think we got some gorgeous shots, both awake and asleep. This is the very first one I took. Look at those cute eyes.

The next few are from the first "set up" we did... and we did at least five different set ups. That is a lot of adorable pictures so check back for more. For now I am hitting the hay, sweet dreams Mr. Sam!

What can I say. I love this little girl. She is hilariously quirky and have you ever seen a more gorgoeus 3 year old? I sure haven't!

This cute girl was sooooo cold I felt so bad.

This is about a 150% improvement from last year when we tried to do pictures. The second I would raise the camera Lucy would dash away or hide her face. Ahh the joys of understanding bribery, what wonders the promise of "square candy" (starbursts) will do!

Since baby Eva was only 6 days old she slept and slept and slept. I love that they sleep all day when they are first born. I laid down with Abby this morning and thought if she were my first I would just drift off to sleep with her! I sure hope that is what Evas mommy is doing with her!

Prince Henry

Today was another double header days wooo hoo! If you want to see crazy cute newborn pics keep reading after this post. I had so much fun doing this blitz photo shoot of little Prince Henry. We literally got these shots so fast I am sure Christen is still reeling. He was such a cutie and waited to cry until we were all done and walkin' out the door-- and then zonked!

I got a bunch of new backdrops and this is a blue and brown one (it is hard to find good boy stuff). Chrisen brought the cutest sweaters and onsies!

Of course we had to do some snuggly nakey ones.

Newborn Heaven

Holy cow Abby is huge. I thought that was impossible, until this morning when I did a newborn shoot with the F family. Baby Eva is only 6 days old. She was HEAVEN to work with! Both mom and dad were there so lots of helping and spotting hands which makes it even better! I am DYING over the pictures. There are WAY to many to post here so check my website in a day or two and there will be a lot of new ones in the infant section... oh yeah my website is slowly getting all the kinks worked out. Trip to UT

This last weekend I flew out to UT to do some photo work for our friends the Tillmanns. I had sooooo much fun! This is my new favorite shoot. Although it seems hardley fair to judge a shoot with one of my dearest friends, my would be daughter in law (yeah I know she is only four but she is marrying Sam if it kills me!) on a weekend trip away from all responsibility but Abby at the coolest location ever!
Kristen has 13 weeks left in her pregnancy so for her maternity pictures we headed out to this crazy awesome location my friend Leah Miller (if you are in Utah believe me you WANT her to do your pictures-- more on that on my personal blog)told me about. It is this amazing abandoned house in Pleasant Grove. The inside had all this amazing wallpaper and the outside had beautiful old architecture. What is funny is recently I haven't been able to decided which ones I like best (not that it matters, it is what the client likes). So here are two sets of three, let me know your opinion.

The field surrounding the house really lent itself to fabulous pictures... as long as you cleaned up the trash first and move the bright blue toilet seat... yeah whats up with that!

This one just screams "Mom power!!! Yes I have been preggers three times and I still look stellar!

Double Header

Today I did two photo shoots. It was CRAZY. Especially because I already had a nutso day getting ready for a surprise this weekend. So here are a few sneak peaks for my lovely clients.

Location: My tiny apt. "studio"
Conditions: Wonderful! We had no older children so there were no distractions. Just me, Quinn and Cady (and abbers who sat in the bumbo and watched... I think she will be a photographer to from the sher number of shoots she has been on)and some lovely natural light.
Length:Hmmm about 20 mins although we did stop and feed both girlies and there were outfit changes so maybe a half hour.
My wonderful friend Cady is a ballet instructor (how cool is that!) She had an adorable idea for my shoot with her little girl Quinn, why not throw on her toe shoes and put Quinn in a tutu. I think they turned out soooo stinkin cute! I was so impressed with Cady jumping on point and holding it!

This one I caught I thought was so hilariously adorable. Look at that face ;)

I like to ride my tricycle

When people find out I am a photographer the phrase that generally follows is "I bet you have great pictures of your kids" I then awkwardly shift my weight from foot to foot, avoid eye contact and mumble something incoherent because to be honest I don't have a lot of "arranged" pictures of my cuties. So, after my morning shoot I took a short break then Chris humored me and we went out to get some pictures of the boys. See, a wonderful friend of mine found the deal of a lifetime the other day when she purchased a fantastic vintage tricycle for FOUR BUCKS! I won't lie, I have major bike envy. For some reason I thought lightening might strike twice so I dragged Liam to our closest thrift store and although there were no trikes in sight, Liam did find a cool old wagon that he refused to get out of... it was awkward when he was clinging to the sides as I was trying to pull him out and avoid getting Abby (who was chillin' in the front pack) kicked in the face, in the end I buckled and just bought it (how many times have I forked over mola to end a tantrum? To many to count- that's embarrassing-- and pretty bad parenting). I am so glad we got it though, the boys love it and I know it will be in some amazing shots. We headed down to the "caboose" by our house, Sam's new favorite place, and I went to town.

Eventually Liam refused to stand on the back of the bike so Chris had the cute idea of putting him in the wagon and having Sam pull it.

Sam was pretty good, you can bribe a 3 year old.

Plus just being able to play on railroad tracks and around a train was enough to put Sammy on cloud nine... although he hated his coat and boots, great because those were sooo cheap....

And although he didn't stay on long (how fun is it when you can't reach the pedals?)
I did catch a smile or two

He did give his Sad face a lot, he is such a little actor we love it!

Chris was kind enough to walk around with Abby and watched which ever boy wasn't in the shot. And then took Abby on a ride on the trike.

Such a Jewel

This morning I did a session with my friends Ryan and her three week old Ruby! How cute is that name, Ruby. I love it. I have wanted to try somenew things with my newborn sessions, I wanted my newborn pictures to be very personalized so I came up with this:

This is the baby pod that Joelle knitted me. It is sooooo soft! Poor Ruby just wanted to sleep and she is past that new newborn state where they sleep crazy soundly.

I have had this idea in my minds eye to do a princess and the pea picture. I got Abby this awesome metal crown from Rodworks for her room (all the decor is vintage crowns) and thought it would be so cute in a picture. I need to do some tweaking and I think I will use box's next time instead of changing table pads, they would be sturdier. Poor Ruby didn't like being all nakey and free

After the shoot my friends Cady and Jennie came over with their adorable children and I thought hey I have my camera out lets just grab some shots. I think they turned out pretty cute for spur of the moment shots

Kalea is my little buddy. When I sit in nursery on sundays with Liam she always hops right onto my lap to do puzzles, so I thought having that repore would help me catch some cute shots of her (as if it would be possible to take a poor picture of such a cute girl!).

Thank goodness Genevieve is also a photographer so she was totally with me on toughin' it out and taking advantage of the clouds! I had sooooo much fun following Peter and Aaron around. Don't they look perfectly put together. Genevieve even made her accesories... hello talented!

Alright folks I have THE coolest idea for a photo shoot but I need a 6-10 month old girl. One who can sit up and preferably not even crawl (I need her to stay put essentially.) Conditions: Toasty warm because it was NASTY out.
Length: Well we were shooting for about 20 mins then hung out for a lot longer :) Thats what happens when you do a photoshoot at my apartment haa!
My friend Elizabeth joined us for this shoot because I knew she would want to get some pictures of this gorgeous baby girl:

She is so gorgeous! And even though her mommie thought she may fall apart she did great!

There was one shot I couldn't get because, well, she is a bit of a chubbers and we couldn't get her situated in the prop I had.. poor girl we were totally trying to put her in a picnic basket but she is off the charts for height and weight so it was just better that we stick with the open basket haa!

This family is so rediculously cute! Of course Little miss Kate and baby Caroline stole the show, but they can't help it they are just to adorable.

Kate cracked me up! She was the perfect little model and loved saying cheese and making cute squishy faces. She also loved all the sticks and leaves she kept finding.

She also LOVED to jump and I caught this one when she was mid air. I think it is so funny. Look at that little tongue sticking out in concentration.

Caroline is such a sweet baby girl and I am sure she and her sister are going to be best buddies!

Okay so I have had soooooo many great photoshoots lately and I am DYING to put some of the pics up but BOTH our laptops are in the shop (I am typing this from our apartments office center.... just the thought of the amount of germs on this keyboard make me shudder.) I have really loved all the shoots I have done lately and I sure hope the offers keep comin'. Unfortunatly due to the amount of time and plethora of requests I am getting I am thinking I might have to start charging... at least a litte. I know I feel awful and hope this doesn't just completely nip all the opportunities I get right in the bud. I promise it will be affordable and as soon as I sit down with my hopefully healed laptop and upload the latest pics I will lay out a price list. I REALLY hope this doesn't deter people and if there are extenuating circumstances ie you are a student or just starting out please please let me know because hello I have sooooo been there and that should not stop you from sending out a killer christmas card.... speaking of which I have an awesome batch of Christmas cards this year so if you want a unique cool christmas card that not ever costco, target walmart shopper will have go HERE and tell me what you like. This is Adam and Eve. Yeah, they get a lot of cracks about that but seriously how cool is that! I got to snap away at their little boy earlier and was excited to see the whole family together.

A walk in the Park

This weekend I finally got to shoot the Khan family. I have been dying to do this because I love their funky cool style, plus Kristina has awesome sleeve tattoos that I wanted to shoot. I was also excited to see how it works shooting not only a toddler but also a puppy... lots of movement here. I brought a vintage cowboy pull toy that I love and thought August would have fun with it then I could just shoot around him playing. When he got bored with that I broke out the bubbles ;)

I got to take two families the Reynolds and the Swansons. The Reynolds had adorable Ava who is just take off walking:

Robyn and Jeff will celebrate their two year anniversary soon. Such a cute little family!
This is the second time I have been able to do family pics for the Swanson family.

It was so fun to look at the last one and see how much the kids have changed!

Ali was such a cute toddler and has become such a gorgeous little girl

The twins are practically teenagers now and Aiden has lost all his cute toddler chub and is all grown up.

Kelly and I took some pictures of her adorable little girls together in their pettiskirts. Morgy's red hair is so cute and I would kill for Ashlyns curls.

Claire and Annie wanted some senior pictures. I have decided teenage girls are by far the most fun to shoot. They don't mind being cheesy to get a good picture and since they all kinda want to be models the ham it up. Add in wardrobe changes and cute personalities and it made for a really fun time! It helps that both these girls are gorgeous!Annie

Marissa is getting married in a week. She is the sweetest girl and didn't even blink when I stuck her up on a huge rock in front of a huge old tree. Or when people honked as they drove past.

I just about died when she showed me her electric pink heels! How fun is that.

I wish I had approached my bridals with more fun. I was sooo worried about my dress getting stained ro ripped I wouldn't do anything fun.Ali wanted some special pictures in her baptism dress so I suggested we go up to the Draper Temple.
